Hi All.
Recently Bought a 2001 330ci Cab.
After engine has run i.e. when hot. If it is turned off, then started again after about 5-10 mins the oil warning light comes on Amber for about 30 secs then goes out.
Have checked oil level and this is fine.
Any ideas.?????

Hi Cliff,
I'm having the same problem on my 2001 330i, except it does it everytime I start the engine. I've checked the oil level and it's fine. I haven't had a chance to take it in to get checked out, so if you figure out what's wrong, please let us know. I'll do the same as soon as I get it taken care of.

Make sure you are checking the oil warm and using the marks on the dipstick correctly, an amber light is simply the low oil level sender in the oil pan. It does, however, go bad sometimes.

Turned out my problem was a bad level sensor. I replaced it and the light went out. Very easy to replace, but it sure is expensive.

Sometimes this can be caused by a dirty oil getting stuck at the face of the sensor. For this try to choose right oil. Some oil tends to make a "foamy" yellow (shit like) colour. When that stuff dries out the resistance (in Ohms) is increased and therefore the sensor replies different voltage where the ECU Module will report as low oil level or no oil. Sometimes, the connectors get rusty and the resistance changes. So, it might not need replacing but just some cleanup will fix the problem.
