Hello all
Does anybody have any idea when and if BMW will ever come out with a fix for the rough idle and stalling issues.

The Idle problem is for a 01 330i
I've heard alot of posts saying that faulty ignition coils are the problem. I have yet to get mine checked out but if it fixes you can by them for ~$70 each and replace the ones that are bad.

I think the idle problem is software related. I say that because I have an ESS S/C and had an idle problem with ESS software v 109. ESS sent me a new version (v110) and I haven't had the problem since. I didn't change any parts, fuel, or anything, it just went away. So, I think you could also say that if BMW would release a software fix for the non S/C'd cars, it would probably fix the issue. Whatever ESS messed with, it fixed it.

Is it a software problem? Mine has died over 20 times. It is a 03 ZHP with 17k miles.

I spoke too soon, even with v110 of the ESS Software, I am getting the idle problems. When I reset the short term fuel map by disconnecting the battery and making the ECU relearn itself, the problem goes away for a month or so. Some people think it has to do with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (Intake side). I may replace it just to see... I notice on my wideband O2 sensor that when the idle problem occurs, the mixture goes super rich...

Alan:
ESS is up to 1.11 now, I wonder if that is to address that issue?
