Hello proudy BMW owners,

I (unfortunately) have not a 330i but a proud owner of a 316 (E46).

The first day I bought this car, I had some problems with this car.

When then engine is cold, I have no problems. but when I turn the engine off, and when I start the engine again after some 10 min or more, then the engine behaves very strange. When I slowly take the road with (10 km/h) and I hit the clutch completely, then the REV is starting to "dance". Yes it looks funny, but believe me, its not! But after 10 min. contantly riding this strange thing dissapears. Sometimes it help to turn the AC on, then it stopped "dancing".
Have someone experienced this strange problem, or could suggest what could cause this? I already spent some money to the Dealer with no result, I only paid them for consultingtime, idiots they are!

Please could anyone help me?
Thanx in advance
Rico

There could be som many things wrong...

I personally would check the computer first for any codes.
If there were no codes stored in the computer I would start with the Idle Control Valve and try replace it.

Then I would check my whole intake system for leaks from the air flow meter sensor to the engine block.

Based on what I would have seen so far I would start attacking items like my throttlebody, air flow sensor, fuel filter and pressure regulator, fuel pump, positive crenkcase ventilation system.

Good luck,
Filip

PS One last thing - these cars are fitted with adaptive idle system - this system tries to find the best idle. So generally the idle jumps a little untill it settles down as low as possible for minimum emissions. The computer detects when you press the clutch because you activate the hydraulics to do it and actually raises the idle to power the hydraulics to help you press on the clutch easyer. Then if you lift off the clutch without putting it in gear - the computer somehow gets a little confused. I noticed this on my car too. If I press on the clutch multiple times and realease it without engaging a gear and moving forward the computer gets confused and my idle jumps all over the place - a bug easily cured by engaging a gear and moving forward. next time at a stop light when I take it out of gear and disengage the clutch my idle settles down nicely. Playing araund with the clutch without driving the car gets my computer confused - it expects you to engage a gear and get a move on.
So if you still thinkg you have an issue go back up and start on the list I gave you and come back and ask some more if you are still confused.
Good luck again,
Filip
