View Full Version : Navgiation System for 2003 330I

I purchased my 2003 330i without a navigation system, I would like to know what is involved in installing an original BMW system. I have done some research and I understand that I would need the Navigation unit, Navigation Monitor, GPS Antenna. Is there any other items I am missing that I would need?

My main concern is does the monitor replace my original radio and a/c unit section or when installing the system do you move the a/c section lower and then install the monitor unit? I can get the Monitor and the Navigation unit for $1000 is that reasonable price?

Thanks and Happy New Year

you also need the tuner as the monitor is just a control unit and the tuner then goes in the trunk, you will also need to rip out most of the interior to re wire the car as the cables the run to your speakers are coming from the front and they would need to come from the trunk where the new tuner/brain is.

This is not an easy job, check out bmwnavigation on the yahoo groups and also www.bmwnavigation.com

I was going to do this with my e46 compact but it worked out for cheaper to sell the car and get one with teh navigation istalled.

there are also 2 versions of the kit, one for the e39 and x5 and the other for e46, they use different harness' and I beleive they have different firmware, this is important as your car needs to know that you have nav installed otherwise the obc wont work properly, you need to take it into a dealer to get them to programme your car once installed.
