I got a call from my dealer.... my touch-up paint that has been on order since july has arrived. Apparently, BMW NA changed the packaging on the paint (and I'm just guessing supplier, but no one would confirm that), so they discontinued the old paint and couldn't tell me when the new paint would be in. Turns out the answer was 3 months to repair the first scratch on my baby.

followup...

So, I went to my dealer to pick up the touch-up paint... and they tell me it's not in yet. Not a big surprise because they had not yet messed up my order, and that was unusual. So I tell them that I got a phone call and please double check. Turns out my color is in (steel blue, or stalhblau) is in, but the majority of colors are not in yet.

The packaging is pretty vanilla, but it's made in germany and comes with a clear coat in a seperate container. There are some environmental warnings and a list-of-chemicals, so maybe the repackaging was done for legal and not asthetic purposes. I think it cost $14 +/- $2.

I'm optimistic that the paint will match - when I toured the mfg. plant, I was amazed at how the colors matched, even though parts were made by many manufacturers and color was applied to different materials. Example: regular paint matches bumper matches mirrors matches door handles -- all different materials from probably different vendors.

I'm researching painting procedures and am going to need something to sand down the existing paint (it scrape made the edge irregular), and I'll let you guys know how it looks. The scratch is in a visible, but not too noticable place, so I can't really mess it up too bad. I'll try the spoiler as a test case.
