I have just ordered a 325i Touring (no 330i Touring available in Canada/US  ) and I'm interested in the ESS supercharger mod. In the very last step of Todd's ESS SC installation step in the "garage" section, "ESS is using a new version of software that requires you to have BMW "re-align" the EWS (security system) to the new DME. This can only be done by someone (your BMW dealership) who has a MoDiC, GT1, or DIS system. It only takes a few seconds to do, but most likely will require the car being towed to that location. My330i was flat-bedded to my BMW dealership to have it done."

Does this mean I have to do this only if I have the factory alarm? Or, does this apply to all car (w/ or w/o factory alarm)?

BTW, have anyone installed the E46 325 ESS SC kit? Any opinion?

Thanks!

When EWS is referred to as a security sistem it is not implied as being the alarm system but rather the BMW brain that checks the codes of all the components before letting you crank the vehicle.
When your car chip holding the air/fuel information, throttle information, etc... is reprogrammed the securty code for the chip is changed and it will need to be realligned at a dealership.

Briefly: you will need this done regadless to the alarm system.

I don't have the ESS system so I can't say anything about the rest.

Filip is correct. You need to realign the EWS wheter you do or do not have the Alarm system installed.:)
