View Full Version : Alarm installation Question --> Removing Cowling
Hi,
Great DIY on the Alarm installation.
Question: How did you remove the last cowling in the hood to expose the area where the siren will be mounted on? I removed both Torx screws as well as the plastic screw. However, the cowling was next to impossible to remove. I tried, pulling, tugging, lifting etc etc and I could not remove the cowling b/c part of it was stuck in right corner.
BTW, I have the 02 M3 and I assume the installation is the same as 3 series. I have installed everything except for the siren.
Thanks

I think there is more than 2 Torx across the top, more like 4.
The first cowling has 4 torx screws (the one after removnig the micro airfilter). It was easy to remove that one. It was the next cowling which has 2 torx screws + 1 plastic screw that I could not remove. According to the DIY it seems easy...

Guest, I just did the alarm install myself. Even after removing the 2 torx bolts and plastic clip, it IS still difficult to get out. You've just got to tug and twist at it "up and forward". If you have someone helping you, one working on each side, it'll eventually slide out of place.
Good Luck.

I should be receiving my alarm on Monday and will install it probably that night. Talked to many stealers in my area no one will activate the alarm as a courtesy, even though I'm bringing it in for a "non-scheduled" oil change. I've gotten prices from $70 all the way up to $150 (Stevens Creek). What a friggin rip off  ! It can't take more than 10-15 min to perform the service...
I live in the SF Bay Area so if anyone has come across a dealer who will activate the alarm free of charge, or for a reasonable fee please let me know. Thanks all!

I'm not kidding when I tell you that it literally takes more time to hook up the MoDiC/GT1 to the car than it does to align the EWS with the new alarm. FIVE MINUTES TOPS. I stood there when my dealer did it. Don't let them rip you off.
