MarvelPhx, have you make any progress on the six speed transmission conversion?

If it works out that way, I will indeed need a 5-speed 330i to continue... I will keep that in mind!

Still no news? I was hoping this would go through before I'm broke again. :D

Unfortunately, I am at the mercy of Zf/Sachs until I get the gearbox itself...

I guess it's more exciting to us then it is to them. :)
I sure would love a six speed and a 3.38 diff.

hey guys i have a question.
what good is the 6 speed going to do you? just at the end you get to go faster? it doesn't help acceleration or anything does it? because you still have the same motor?
if you could explain, i'd appreciate it.
thanks,
dave

Its all about changing your gear ratios to keep tht engine in the powerband longer, 6 speeds allows closer ratios so you don't have to rap out each gear to get maximum acceleration...

Is there any way to firm the shifting on the steptronic gearbox, If so I would save it rather to pay for an expensive 6-stick... :screwy:

welcome, attarrad! dinan has improved transmission software (http://www.dinanbmw.com/Products/3series/330i/330i.html#11), but I haven't heard any reviews of it.
Sporty acceleration is no longer the sole domain of those who like to shift gears; Dinan Automatic Transmission Software welcomes you to the performance zone. To fully utilize the extra power extracted by the Dinan Performance Engine Software, the transmission software raises the shift points to a higher rpm for faster acceleration in both the "Sport" and "Economy" modes, allowing you to carry more road speed in each gear.
The software also provides firmer and quicker shifting, further improving acceleration. Shift pressures are increased providing more rapid shifting, resulting in faster acceleration. The transmission software will typically shave .01 seconds off of 0-60 mph times and .03 seconds to 100 mph. The software provides the same benefits in both the automatic and manual shifting modes.
That doesn't sound like too much of a performance boost, though :(

yeah, dinan is usually good because it keeps your warranty in tact...
but it's also usually LOTS of money for little gains...
