Forum Upgrade Poll

OK guys, I need your input...

I am running phpBB 1.4.1 on this site for the forums...

The most current version is 2.0.3 which has 200+ fixes, patches, and other features added... see this http://www.phpbb.com/features.php

Now, I can make the upgrade no problem, however, there are certain modifications *I* have made to this forum such as having your car photos in the profiles, colors, and minor updates... we will lose those changes if I upgrade.

I am sure I can add those back at some point, I am just asking what you all think about it being worth it...

If it has to eventually be done and it offers greater functionality in the future then you might as well do it now. I hope we don't lose the photo capabilities for long otherwise I'll miss viewing everyone's car including my own /forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif. Anyway, good luck with the upgrade Marvel!

I'm for it! It won't be a problem for me to enter new photos and profile info on the new format. Thanks for your efforts Marvel in making this site better. If there is anything we can do, just ask.

Great job on this site. Having the pics is a great feature but if upgrading is necessary then go for it.

I can reinstate the pictures, plus the little things I did,it is just a matter of time. The photos are stored under the userID, so they should stay in place, it is just a matter of getting them to display again properly...

Go for it - more experience for you! Something more you can put on yoru resume.
Can you by any chance back up the site before the conversion? There is a lot of good info here not worth losing.

Oh, I backup the forums at least once a month. The site it self is on at least 3 other computers besides the hosting companies...

You gotta do what ya gotta do. The upgrade is inevitable at some point isn't it? If it enhances the site to where YOU want it, then go for it. I personally believe the site is fine the way it is, but one thing that is always certain is change.

By the way, just a suggestion on an enhancement... maybe there can be a forum search where if I want to read about, oh say clears for instance, I could type "clears" in the search box and hit "go" and be taken to threads that discuss what I am looking for. To Filip's point, there is a lot of good information here.

Anyway and once again, great site, Marvel. Thanks for the time you've dedicated to this site so that all of us can hang out here.

I work for an ISP/Internet organization...and anytime we can update our systems in order to improve our server's performance, we do it. I would recommend you go ahead and make the upgrade. I'm sure future versions will allow us to post pictures and do the other things we may have to temporarily place on hold.

Thanks for a great and informational site. I also love the design and navigational changes you've already made.
