View Full Version : Buying new tires is getting tiresome ... and expensive

I have replaced 6 tires on my 2001 3301 with 28000 miles, since October 2002! Bubbles in the sidewall and flats all supposedly from potholes, according to BMW, and due to the low profile tires. Original and replacement tires were all Continental.

No problems occurred last winter, but it was far warmer.

Anyone have similar experiences or suggestions.

Next time, try Michelin Pilot Sports. I love mine, very grippy, stable at high speeds, excellent handling. So far, heard lots of negative things on Continentals. Also, avoid those potholes.

Read my story about my Contis in the MY330I section...

I have a had three flats with my stock continentals on my 2002 330i (within 16k miles). I contacted Continental and was advised to take my car in to a specialist to investigate the tire. It was ruled 'road hazard'. When the guy from the shop called into to continental to report the 'investigation', he told them my saga story about this being the third tire I would have to buy in a matter of 8 months. He asked if they would consider giving me the 50% "courtesy" discount. Due to the fact there were 6k miles on this last tire they said no discount...they didn't care that the two tires I bought before only had 3k and 4k on them before going flat! I am happy to say that continental will no longer get a dime of my money. I am picking up the car this afternoon with her new Michelin Pilots.

I ended up going with Toyo TS1's. They are as grippy as the Contis wet or dry and they are much quieter. The tread also seems to be lasting much longer ~9000 miles so far with little wear. They also feature a raised burm that protects your rims from scuffs.

I'm very happy with Pilot sports>

If you shell out the dough for the slightly more expensive Michelin Pilot Sport tires, you won't be disappointed. Mine lasted for 40,000+miles (with significant wear, of course).

Potenza S-03s stick in the wet like Pilots stick in the dry - no joke. It is an amazing tire.

I second that opinion...
