View Full Version : ESS Supercharger?????

01-13-2003, 06:57 PM
I have a 2001 330 Ci 5 sp manual with Dinan intake, throttle body, exhasut and appropriate Dinan software downloads (1 point shy of a Dinan 3 badge) in the Atlanta GA area. I have been looking at a supercharger for a while and the local shop (Performing Imports who seem to be EXTREMELY knowledgeable) suggest the ESS supercharger.
Any feedback on this supercharger with the current mods? I assume the kit to come with necessary fuel injector (fuel pump?) upgrades? What about interooler?
Any drivetrain issues?
What have others paid "drive out costs" (incl installation) for this kit w/ what other accessries not included in the kit?
Horsepower gains? rwhp vs at the crank?
Comparison to other cars on the street? (ie twin turbo supra?)
What should I look out for, if anything???
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I wish Dinan would make a supercharger for the 330...

I have the ESS and have not had any real problems.
It will replace your Dinan intake and software.
It comes with larger fuel injectors (your stock fuel pump is plenty strong).
ESS is working on an intercooler system which will run boost to about 9psi and produce another 40-50hp.
The only additional costs I incurred which is not included with the kit were shipping the DME and US Customs.
Realistically, the standard ESS kit produces another 80-100 RWHP over stock.
Comparatively, you can work most cars on the road with your 300+ crank HP and an almost flat torque curve (I do). However, a twin turbo Supra will likely eat you alive on the straights (I've personally seen 2 dyno more than 800 RWHP), but it's a Toyota and won't handle like your BMW.

Any help?
