Who makes aftercoolers for RMS or ESS superchargers, where do you get them, and how much do they usually cost?

ESS is working on an aftercooler for their systems.

You can't just add an aftercooler to the ESS system, it would change the whole fuel map. I'm just about certain that it requires DME reprogramming as well. I'd guess that the aftercooler ESS will sell requires the reprogram, but I'm interested... /forums/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Todd, I am also concerned about running the supercharger without the intercooler. Wouldn't it eventualy cause problems (knocking) because of the hot air? If that is not a problem then why is ESS working on an intercooler? Is it because you can get more power with an intercooler? Will you eventually go for the intercooler when it will be available?

Detonation (the evil doer-in of forced induction engines) is likely if intake temperatures exceed about 230 degrees, sub-grade fuel is used, or the air/fuel mixture or timing is way off.

Since the ESS system produces a relatively low level of boost (max 7psi), the outside ambient air temperature would have to exceed about 130F before temperature would cause detonation at the Vortech's 70% adiabatic efficiency. If you are in a hot climate (like I am), you can run a colder set of spark plugs (which ESS will supply) to help during the summer as well.

The reason ESS is working on an aftercooler system is raise the boost to 9psi for more power.

Todd thanks for the info. Now do I have to specify the colder spark plugs at the time of order or does it come like that. I usually drive to Vegas in the summer. I should get the plugs then.

I would just ask ESS... I haven't needed them yet...
