Damn, I was just closing my rear side window and the window fell all the way down into the doors. I called the dealer they won't be able to fix it until Monday.
Does anyone know if there is a quick way to pull the window up and temporarily close it?

I found another dealer in the area. They had fixed it in two hours. It was a regulator problem. Cost $400. /forums/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif I think it was just too expensive.

Just think of how many rolls of duct tape you could have bought with that money! (click here) (http://www.jitterbuzz.com/filuso/windows.gif)
(p.s. is it just my browser/screen, or does marvel's color scheme make it hard to distinguish links?)

Darius, I had the left rear window regulator break as well, and I changed it myself. It cost me $110 for the regulator and I replaced it myself and made sure everything went to place perfect. I wish you e-mailed me for that. I am so sorry. I feel like I've been ripped off too.....@#%&$ /forums/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Well now we know that we are having pretty much the same problems around the same time. So let's consult with each other before deciding. I have to admit though, my window broke right after I bought the car, and it was sprinkly, and I almost freaked out, but then I took it easy and went one step at a time.

What is it doing? Is it stuck ? Fell down? Making noise?

Looks like a regulator problem. Himiles has a DIY for it.

This is a common problem. I've had two done so far, both replaced under warantee. I'm hoping the other two go before Feb '03 so it will be covered. If not, a DIY might be worth a shot.

Crmbis, send me an e-mail with your address, and I will mail you instructions from 2 different sources on how to replace it. I did mine (left rear) , and the only thing I paid for was the regulator $97.00 and I just bought passenger front regulator and left rear as back up. Crazy..

You should post this in the Garage section. I have a feeling a lot of us can use this.

Just had the 2 front window motors fixed on my 330, luckily under warranty. It's times like this that I wonder if this is really the Ultimate Driving Machine. I have never had these types of problems with any of my other cars. My IS300 has not had a single problem even when I use it for AutoX. My 330's performance is great but it seems to break down if you just sneeze too loud. I spend more time worrying and fixing it rather than enjoying it. What do you guys think?

Well this is what I found out about the regulators:
The regulator rails used in the early style regulator (99-00) were galvanized to prevent corrosion, but relatively rough surface of the rails would wear away the plastic sliders as the window operated, causing noises as the sliders wore down. To correct this, the window regulators used inproduction since 2/00 are coated with black plastic to reduce friction between the sliders and the rails, as well as the lift cables and the rails. The part numbers of the new style regulators have been superseded to the following:
51 33 7 020 659 Left Regulator
51 33 7 020 660 Right Regulator
The defect code is 51 33 92 39 00
Now they claimed the y fixed the problem, but obviously it still exist. Plastic parts in a regulator ... not so effective in my opinion
I just got my '01 330 back from the dealer after a regulator replacement. This is the second one they replace under the waranty. I also had the door lock replaced during the first year. Seems like BMW has problems fixing the doors. Otherwise the car drives very nice. I have had no problems with the major components like engine, transmission etc yet. It is still frustrating to have problems with the minor components. They can use better quality plastics for the regulators. Considering the price we are paying...

I totally agree. Mine is out of warranty though...ouf...scary!
I have the same problem with 3 of 4 windows right now. HIMILES can you help me out with DIY instructions and where I can get parts. I want to fix it before it gets worse.

I had the rear right replaced under warranty and now the front passenger went out (out of warranty now). I was going to wait for my 60K service to get it replaced, but I didn't think it was THAT MUCH to get it replaced. I think I'm better off replacing it myself, especially since they go out frequently. HiMiles, can you please email me the DIY. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
George

well the other day my rear window regulator decided to go out again only after 8 months since bmw replaced it. i had talked to the service advisor and he had informed me that parts and labor have a 2 year warranty when bmw installs them. if you do the install yourself only the parts are covered under the 2 year warranty. just letting you all know since this is such a common problem with bmw's
