Dinan?

I'm planning on installing the Dinan Stage 2 and the Auto Trans with the cold air intake. I have a 330i and was wondering how much hp
can I expect? Secondly is it really worth it?
$1600 (including the labor)

I just wanted an opinion as to whether or not it's worth it. I've read alot of negative about the Conforti mods. and just didn't want to waste the $$

Well, there isn't that much more they can squeeze out of the 330's engine thru ECU reprogramming. BMW already maxed it. They can remove the top-speed limiter and raise the redline governor, but not much else.

They may be able to take advantage of CAI and exhaust, but I wouldn't imagine we are talking about more than 15hp combined.

I wouldn't pay 1800 bucks for maybe 15hp.

As for the transmission software... That might be something I would be interested in if I had an auto. Changing the shift points and altering the rpm/load mapping could be something more to your style of driving.

If you are looking for instant HP, I would just do the CAI and exhaust. I would skip the engine software unless you are making major changes, aka supercharger, cams, etc.

There are LOTs of exhaust systems to choose from: Supersprint, AA, Dinan, UUC, ACS, AC Schnitzer, etc. All of them are different in one way or another.

Some people go for the sound, others for performance, then others for looks. Take a look around and see what suits you most.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm still gonna do the complete Dinan engine,trany, and cold-air. I definatly do not want any more noise from my exhaust so I'll look into something with max hp and little noise. Do you know the relative cost of having the exhaust done A-Z ?

wow! $1600??? too much money. I was quoted $299 for software and $60 for labor. and for the CAI it's $399(not carbon fiber) and I got it installed for $125. Total=$885

Well it's done. I had the Dinan Engine software and CAI done yesterday. The transmission software for the 330 wasn't ready - Dinan said it's close but....I don't want to be a lab rat for them. The bad part is that I couldn't even drive the car today - it snowed 6" last night in NC. Thanks for all you help/suggestions.

I keep seeing people write that there is no improvement in horsepower gain, using software, in the 330. Just because Dinan couldn't do it doesn't mean to say it can't be done. FYI Conforti is working on a shark injector (if not already finished) for the 330 and 325. My opinion is that Dinan just gave up or decided that you have to purchase a whole bunch of other crap to get the same effect and make Dinan richer. I'm actually waiting (patiently) to purchase a shark injector for my 330ci.

-quicker throttel response
-sweet sound
-240 higher rpm limit

con:
-PRICE
-11 hp added, but nnot at the peak
it added something, but almost impossible
to feel

I have a 330 with the Dinan CAI, Exhaust, and Stage 2 Engine Software installed. I will tell you one thing for sure, the car is MORE FUN to drive. Isn't that the real goal? If pure performance is the only goal, I guess the Supercharger is the only satisfactory upgrade - and that'll set you back $6K!

i am also considering the dinan stage 3 engine chip, cold air intake and the high flow throttle body. my question is... where can i find the small "vent opening" part that is found on the european turbo diesel e46. this part is located right under the left fog lamp of the m-technic front bumper on a sport package equipped 330i. apparently, this opening is supposed to feed cold air directly into the CAI. theres a pic of the part im talking here http://www.mindspring.com/~pmbenn/dinan3.htm

I know of this website where some guy has posted pictures of this part, how to install it, and what part number it is. Here's a link to that obscure website.
