The fan switch that is causing BMWs to burst into flames apparently does not affect my 330i. Thank God!

BMWNA told me that, besides X5s and others, 3-series produced from 2/1/2001 to 5/14/2001 were affected. My car was made in September of 2000, so I am safe. If your production date is within this timeframe and you have NOT had the recall campaign complete, call your dealer immediately and have the work done!

I have had my fan replaced twice now. My car originally overheated on a trip back from Boston. I called BMW roadside and was able to get it into Tulleys BMW of Manchester, NH. I got the car into the shop right at closing time on a Friday and they were able to get me a rental and take my information down. The fan was repaired by the following Wednesday. Then about a month ago BMWNA sent me a recall notice informing me about the recall. I thought they were a little behind here so I called them it was to replace the replacement! I had this completed ASAP. The indications of my fan dying were that when I was in stop and go traffic (Boston-Concord) I noticed the temperature gauge moving past the normal position. At first I thought this was odd becuase it has never moved once it hits the correct temp. Once I was moving it then dropped down. And then once I stopped again due to the traffic the gauge pegged itself and then a red light turns on under the hot side. I pulled off to the side of the road and opened the hood and that was when the steam came out of the engine! I had already turned the car off but this is what is called heat soak. Any way, now that it is winter here in VT I won't worry about overheating. Hopefully this newest replacement is the "Fix"!

I too had my aux fan go out, twice actually.
I drive about 40k per year and the first time they replaced it with the same fan, by the time the 2nd failed, they had redesigned the part.

FYI my car WAS produced in this time frame, 3/5/01.
